This step by step guide is going to help you look and feel your best. As you work your way through this guide, keep in mind that these are only suggestions. Please choose what you are comfortable doing and leave the rest. For the items you choose, write them on your calendar and treat them like an appointment. This whole process is about you. Have fun getting ready and choose to prepare in a way that makes you feel your best.

OUTFITS

About 2-3 weeks prior to your shoot, choose a variety of outfits based on your consultation. If we’re going to be “on location” for any part of the shoot, keep your location in mind when choosing your outfits. Urban styled clothing looks great in the city, a cowboy hat looks great on the farm. You get the idea.

The basics:

  1. Your casual outfit. This might be a T-shirt of your favorite band and a pair of jeans with your favorite tennis shoes. If the weather is going to be very hot, you may also consider shorts.

  2. Your “out to dinner” outfit. A button down shirt with a nice pair of jeans. Something you feel great wearing.

  3. Your “dressy” clothes. This could be a suit & tie or tuxedo if you like getting dressed up.

  4. Any other outfit you’d like to showcase - sports uniform with equipment, band uniform with instrument, etc.

Things to consider:

• Solids and very small prints are best. Large, repeating prints can be a distraction.

• Bulky clothing isn’t flattering in photos.

• Choose colors that complement your skin tone and eyes.

Avoid flourescent colors as they can cause a color cast onto your skin.

I’m here to help you. Please send me pictures of your outfits and I’ll be happy to give you feedback. I’ll also use those pictures to plan your shoot.

Accessories: Make a list of the different shoes, socks, belts, jewelry, etc. that you need for each outfit. Keep this list handy when it’s time to pack.

Steam or iron clothes to remove wrinkles.

HAIR

Plan to have your hair cut or trimmed before your shoot. If your hair is color treated, make an appointment for a touch up within 2 weeks of your session. Stick with a cut (and color) that you know you love. Wait until after your shoot to try something new.

SKIN

  • Moisturize any dry skin.

  • I will remove blemishes from your photos. Please let me know how you’d like to deal with any scars.

  • Stay hydrated.

FACE

  • Shave or trim any facial hair

  • Moisturize as needed

  • Don’t worry about pimples or blackheads. They will be removed duing retouching.

  • Decide if you want a brow wax. If you use tweezers for your eyebrows, take the time to learn how to properly shape your brows. You don’t want to overdo it.

  • Whiten teeth as needed.

NAILS

  • Clean your nails

  • Cut and file nails to a uniform length

It’s Photoshoot Day!

  • Start your morning with a tall glass of water.

  • Eat something. Sometime people feel nervous before a shoot. Please eat a small snack if you don’t want a whole meal. P.S. Pack a snack for after an “on location” shoot.

  • Moisturize as needed

  • Bring your clothes on hangers so they don’t wrinkle.

We’re going to have a great time.

I look forward to seeing you!
